The nurses reported on their life goals and were asked to respond to three scales, which tested their social adaptation: a trait self-efficacy scale, an apathy scale, and a self-esteem scale. Results indicated that 88 % of the nurses had life goals. These goals were classified into 3 categories: license acquisition, license application, and non-license. The U nurses reported more license application goals than the V nurses. As nurses progress from their first year to third year of vocational school, they reported more non-license goals. Overall nurses with non-license goals showed lower trait self-efficacy than nurses with license acquisition or license application goals. The V nurses revealed higher trait self-efficacy than the U nurses. In addition, nurses with sophisticated goal structures showed high self-esteem and low apathy.
