The animals were divided into two groups:\nsedentary (S; n = 7) or run (R; n = 9) group. Animals in the R group were trained with treadmill\nrunning (30 m/min, 60 min/day and 5 days/wk) for 8 weeks. After 8-weeks of training, the plantaris\nmuscle (PLA) was isolated, and crude myosin was prepared. MyHC isoform composition was analyzed\nby sodium dodecyl sulfate polyaclylamidegel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).\nBody weights in both groups increased significantly during the training period. However, the final\nbody weights of each group were not significantly different. PLA weight and relative PLA weight of\nthe R group were significantly higher than those in the S group.\nNo statistical difference was found in the compositions of the MyHC I and IId isoforms in either\ngroup. However, the R group value for the type IIa MyHC isoform was higher than that of the S\ngroup and the type IIb MyHC isoform value for the R group was relatively lower than that of the S\ngroup.\nThese results indicated that the MyHC isoform composition of the PLA muscle changed with\nrunning training.
