内容記述 | The benefits that accrue from having an educated populous is a major driving force in the funding of education in many nations. From a purely financial perspective the symbiotic relationship between the productivity of the citizenship and the investment by the government in their education is what lends vitality to their educational systems. The American experience has been disposed away from central funding of its educational institutes. The basis for this bias lies in the philosophical bent of the people away from central authority and toward funding by autonomous bodies. Even in the face of ever increasing financial demands generated by the provision of universal education, the central government has declined substantial investment in education. A highly educated work-force generates a more robust potential generation of revenue than otherwise would be the case. In terms of earning power, there is a strong correlation between education and income. In tandem with this is an incrementally decreasing rate of unemployment enjoyed by those with an increasing level of education. It is in the interests of nations to protect themselves from the deleterious effects of under-education. The under-educated are represented in disproportionate numbers in prisons and on the welfare rolls, and are conspicuous by their absence in the political arena. The discomfiture caused society by the under-educated is reason enough for nations to take an interest in the equitable funding of education for all its members. These are some of the problems concerning educational funding that the United States is faced with today. Different plans for funding are under experimentation with an aim toward a guaranteed high quality education for members of all sectors of society. Finding an appropriate funding model and taking an active role in the solution to these types of problem are part of the expanding role of the modern educator no matter which country they are in. | |||||
